Setting the record straight

Just because I forgot to post their picture, don,t think the DRCI greeters weren't out in force. It was almost like having my own race pit crew: Captain Berry and his GL1800 Goldwing acted as the official escort, guiding me from the sign at the bottom of the hill to the front door ala NASCAR pace bike. Then the crew went into action, refueling me with cold H2O and cleaning the bugs off my helmet visor. Up to this point I hadn't seen a soul at any of my stops and it was encouraging to see this type of support. The eastside institutions ruled on this day!
This photo didn't get posted during the ride simply because I forgot. I'd already posted the pix of the sign when Captain Berry picked me up and I guess i had already crossed the task off my mental checklist.

The Final Numbers

The ride seems to have been a success on all counts. We raised some money for, and awareness of, Shelly's House. This is photo of my Garmin V GPS and the stats of the trip. The trip was exactly 21 hours and 1119 miles to go from Shutter to Warner Creek. I was stopped 3 hours and 28 minutes, which is a lot more than I planned for. I was just having so much fun talking to the folks at the eastside institutions I lost track of time. Sitting for 22 minutes on Hwy 6 going to and from South Fork Forest Camp didn't help either. I also had very slow going through the east metro area on my way to DRCI.
The other success for me is earning to the right say I been to every DOC institution...in a day.

The Two Wheels for Transition first aid kit.

Saturday, June 13, 2009

The paperwork

In order for the Iron Butt Association to recognize the Two Wheels for Transition Ride as an official SaddleSore 1000 (1000 miles in 24 hours or less), documentation must be completed to verify the ride. Witnesses must verify your presence and odometer at the start and the end of the ride and a date/time stamped receipt becomes your official start time. During the ride, any stop over 30 minutes must be logged and you must produce a receipt for fuel at least every 350 miles. In order to ensure you have all the necessary information recorded, LD rider use the acronym TOP DOG:
T = time
O = odometer reading
P = place
D = date
O = other
G = gallons
If your receipt and log shows all this information, you're good to go. All this documentation, plus a map showing your route, is submitted to the IBA. Staffers then audit the log and receipts calling witnesses if necessary to verify you completed the ride as you've claimed. Only after this verification will the IBA issuse a certificate. You can read more about the Iron Butt Association at www.ironbutt.com

Sweetness

There's not much sweeter in life than a brand new, sticky bit of sport-touring heaven just waiting to take to the road. This Michelin Pilot Road 2 will see me throught the Two Wheels for Transition Ride and the Utah 1088 rally a week later.
