To you, my friends. Godspeed

Thursday morning I'm taking off for a couple of days of riding to visit nine Dutch Bros Coffee locations built since my ride last year. When I do, I'll be thinking of some friends. The last 12 months have been hard on the Long Distance Riding community. Three riders, my friends, who I rode the 2007 Iron Butt Rally are gone. Ken Morton (right), a.k.a Dread Pirate Kermit, died last year during the Utah 1088 when, in the black of night, when he rode into a super cell thunderstorm and was blown into a guard rail. Dick Fish (middle) was lost to a freak accident in Glacier National Park during the Good, Bad and Ugly rally. The incident did not involve high speed or a significant collision; the bike was hardly damaged. Now, just last Saturday, Curt Gran (left) was killed during the Minnesota 1000. It appears a strong gust of wind blew him into another vehicle. The last 12 months has been HARD on the Long Distance Riding community. Some of the best people I've met in this life are endurance riders. These three were the best of the best. To them I say goodbye. To those reading, I say seize the day. Follow me Thursday and Friday while I seize mine. http://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=4b524fd4d3116b2f4

Well put, Paul. I've been thinking a lot about Ken on my Alaska trip, just knowing how much he would have liked to have done the same ride. Then when we arrived back in Fairbanks after our successful ride to/from Deadhorse we learned of Curt's death. Another great one lost too soon.
